What this tool cannot do
- This is not a clinical instrument and has no score that means something. It counts the signs you report and nothing more.
- It cannot tell you whether you are burned out or have depression, anxiety or any other condition. A doctor or counselor can.
- If you are thinking about harming yourself or someone else, do not use this page. Call or text 988, or call 911 if there is immediate danger.
- It is an estimate based on published rules, not advice.
Common questions
Is this a test for burnout?
No. It is a list of common signs of strain that you can count for yourself. It is not a clinical instrument, it does not diagnose anything and it has no cut-off. If you are worried about your health, talk to a doctor.
Where can I find help with caregiving?
The Eldercare Locator, a public service of the U.S. Administration for Community Living, connects you to local services for older adults and their caregivers, such as respite care, support groups and in-home help. Your area agency on aging can tell you what is available near you.
What if I am in crisis?
Call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at any time. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
