Live-in caregivers in Texas
A live-in caregiver stays in the home, helps through the day and sleeps overnight. Agencies that place live-in caregivers set their own rules on breaks and sleep time, so ask each one.

How live-in care is paid for
- Medicare doesn't pay for long-term care, also called custodial care, and doesn't pay for personal care like bathing and dressing when that is the only care someone needs.
- Medicaid home and community-based services (HCBS) let people who qualify for Medicaid get care at home or in their community instead of an institution. Your state Medicaid agency decides who qualifies.
- Many families pay privately, and some long-term care insurance policies pay toward care. Check what your policy covers before care starts.
