Method
- Nursing homes: the CMS overall rating, from the Provider Information file released September 2026.
- Home health: the CMS quality of patient care star rating, from the Home Health Care Agencies file released October 2026. These ratings come in half stars.
- Hospice: the CAHPS Hospice Survey summary star rating, from the provider survey file released August 2026.
- Averages and shares count only providers CMS rated. A provider with no rating is left out, not counted as zero, because CMS does not rate providers with too few patients or survey responses.
- An average across a state says nothing about any one provider. Check the provider's own Care Compare record before choosing.
